I put the new SensatioNAIL Express Gel Manicure Kit to the test.
No one loves a gel manicure more than me. You get perfect nails with no dry time that lasts up to two weeks. If you love your nails perfectly polished and can live with the colour you’ve choose for a while, than a cured gel manicure is for you.
One of the major downfalls is the cost, and of course, getting the polish off, which requires a timely acetone soak. The next is cost. Depending on where you go, your gel manicure can cost on average of $50.
With the popularity of Gel Kits for at-home use many of us manicure enthusiasts, who can hold a steady hand, have rejoiced at the idea of doing them at home on the cheap and regular. However, I’ve found that they still take a bit of time.
So, when SensatioNAIL released their Express Gel One Step Nail Polish kit, I was eager to put it to the test.
This one step gel nail kit has everything you need to start doing your own gel manicure at home. It only includes one polish that acts as your base coat, polish and top coat. The kit also includes an LED lamp.
The whole concept for this new express gel manicure is that you get your chip-proof, long lasting, glossy nails, in only one step. After applying a coat, you simply cure it for 30 seconds, apply another layer, then cure for another 30 seconds and you’re done. Simple, right?
When I tried it, I was impressed with how the polished looked. My nails looked shiny and smooth after two coats. But the important question was, how long did this gel manicure last?
To be honest, it only lasted one day. I applied the gel polish on a Saturday and by Sunday morning three nails chipped off, with some coming off in full. I fixed those nails but they still didn’t last. Some reviews online have some woman saying it lasted longer, but the fact is it doesn’t stack up to salon quality. Well, at least not on my nails. I did follow directions to ensure nails were clean, dry and buffed.
Perhaps it needs a top coat?
On a positive note, if you’re looking for a quick-dry mani at home for an evening out, or for it to last a few days tops, it’s still worth saving dry time than with regular polish. So for that alone the kit was worth it form. I will definitely keep using it.
