The stars and fashion’s brightest brought their A-games at this year’s Met Gala 2018. See the looks here.
The Met Gala always has an artistic theme. This year’s theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. But when it comes to religion, controversy follows. Despite some of the oos and ahhs about what kind of statements people would make with their fashion, the curator of the Costume Institute Andrew Bolton said “dress is fundamental to any discussion about religion.”
What is the The Met Gala?
Formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, it is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It’s the biggest event on the fashion fundraising calendar, and is renowned for attracting the world’s biggest stars. The Anna Wintour-hosted gala is an over-the-top grand celebration of style, and is super exclusive despite it being a charity event. It’s invite only.
Rihanna (who is starring role in the coming Met Gala heist movie, Ocean’s 8)Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace were on board to assist Vogue’s Editor in Chief Anna Wintour to chair the event. And, although many models and stars don’t pay because they are guests at tables purchased by major fashion houses, it costs about US $30,000 per person to attend.
