Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihiliation movie follows the story of a biologist, Lena (Portman), who ventures into a mysterious phenomenon known as “the Shimmer,” a mysterious quarantined zone on the US coast filled with mutated flora and fauna, where her husband (Oscar Isaac) went missing on a top-secret mission.
When her husband Sgt. Kane mysteriously returns home after a year, coughing up blood, and with no logical answers to what happened, government officials suddenly appear and whisk the couple off to a research facility in a remote coastal territory known as Area X.
It’s there that Lena learns about The Shimmer a mysterious, iridescent light fog enveloping an area around a lighthouse. Lena learns that many have gone in to investigate over the years, but were never heard from again, accept Kane. With the Shimmer already threatening to expand, Lena decides the best thing she can do for her deathly ill husband is to find out the truth for herself.
Along with Dr. Ventress (Jennifer Jason Leigh), paramedic, Anya Thorensen (Gina Rodriguez), physicist, Josie Radek (Tessa Thompson), and anthropologist Cass Sheppard (Tuva Novotny) they risk their lives and enter the Shimmer to find answers.

Annihilation movie opens in theatres on February 23 in North America and on Netflix in March. The movie is directed by Alex Garland (Ex-Machina) and stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Anya Thorensen and Oscar Isaac.
