Coffee has to be one of the most diverse drinks out there. You can practically drink every which way. Whatever your preference is, there’s a new coffee game in town (move over Bulletproof, butter-infused coffee) that coffee addicts and afficionados will die to try. It’s called Nitro Coffee.
What is it? As the name suggests, Nitro Coffee is infused with nitrogen (a method used by beer brewers). It’s cold, frothy, creamy, and it is served on tap, just like your favourite beer on tap.
Its proponents claim it helps blood flow and is less acidic than traditional brews — a big health benefit for java lovers.
But be prepared to feel a bit more of a buzz. Although it’s on tap, it does not contain alcohol but many report feeling a great coffee high. Why?
The “buzz” is generated from the high-concentration of caffeine in the cold-brew concentrate and from the the creamy froth that makes the drink easier to go down than a regular cup of java.
“This drink satisfies a coffee craving in a whole new way,” states Balzac’s Toronto owner Diana Olsen who now offers the drink. “With such a transformation in the texture and taste from what we are used to in a traditional Iced coffee. I think it will appeal to beer drinkers too…it’s like a reverse effect beer with the buzz factor coming from caffeine rather than alcohol.”
She continues, “Many trends in the coffee industry come and go, which is why we have always chosen to stay rooted in the classics, but this is a beverage that we recognized as truly unique and worthy of pursuing. I also love the purity in the ingredients, no additives or sweeteners.”
